WOMEN LEADERS

What makes some women such strong leaders?  In Australia we have a woman Prime Minister leading our Government and in Queensland a female Premier leading our state.  Both are strong women doing what has traditionally been thought of as exclusive to men.

Only a few years ago it would have been unthinkable for a woman to be CEO of a company and yet, now we have many women in positions of responsibility and they are doing very well thank you.

So, what is it that makes women strong leaders?

There are several very good articles about this subject and one of these, written by Hilary Lips, is titled Women and Leadership: Delicate Balancing Act

Women are judged by a different yardstick to men.  The focus for women like Hilary Clinton is on the frivolous feminine things like the clothes she wears, whether they are too soft and when all else fails women are accused of being "too emotional".  This criteria of judging is never used on men.

Another very good article on this subject is Qualities of Women Leaders.  This article compares the true qualities of women leaders to those of their male counterparts and is well worth reading.

Whatever it is that makes women leaders stand apart from other women, many of them are doing an excellent job in their chosen profession and I admire them for their courage and determination to break through the glass ceiling and step into the world that men thought they owned.
