ANNIVERSARY OF ATROCITY

Ten years after the atrocity that was 9/11 people are still suffering the results of that terrible day.  I cannot understand how anyone can justify the actions of any terrorist.  Terrorism is a brutal attack on innocent people who have never and would never harm another human being. Quite often the victims are children.

I remember clearly the day I learned about the attack on the Twin Towers.  I was travelling from Alice Springs to Adelaide, a particularly remote part of Australia.  There was no radio reception there and we had not heard the news for several days.  We stopped by the side of the road to have lunch and a policeman from the Northern Territory, who was on holidays, pulled up beside us and told us what had happened.

It was not until much later, when we saw the attack on TV that it became horribly real to us.  Until then I don't  think we fully believed this atrocity could have happened, that there must be some hideous mistake.  Unfortunately it was very real and very true.

This event has had terrible, far reaching consequences.  We are embroiled in a war that does not seem to be achieving the results we hoped for.  All Moslem people are viewed with mistrust and fear even though most Moslems would have been as shocked as we were at this terrible attack.

Terrorist attacks are not carried out by average normal people.  What average, normal person would do what these terrorists did?  These people are obsessed and I really believe they are insane.

Ten years after the event, seeing it again on tv can still bring me to tears and I can't imagine how the people who lost friends and loved ones on that day can ever really heal.

My thoughts and prayers are with them always.
