WHAT SCARES YOU

What are you afraid of?  Are you afraid of the dark, storms, growing old, being alone, leeches or, understandably, snakes? We all have our fears and we all deal with them in different ways.

Personally I am terrified of leeches and snakes.  Fear of snakes is quite rational but leeches?  I know leeches are harmless so my fear is completely irrational. I am so glad I wasn't around when they used them in hospitals.  I would have died of fright if someone put a leech on me.

I don't go anywhere where I believe there could be leeches and I always watch where I am walking in case there is a snake on the ground.  If you run into someone walking along watching the ground instead of where they are going there is an excellent chance that someone is me.

Quite a few women I know are frightened of storms.  My mother would draw all the blinds when there was a storm so she couldn't see it.  If she couldn't see it she wasn't quite so scared.  One of her sisters used to hide under the bed and was truely terrified, another would cover all the cutlery and cover her mirrors because she believed these things would attract the lightening.

Both my children, their father and two of my grandsons have a very real fear of spiders.  If they see a spider they won't rest until it has been sent to heaven.

Our fears are quite out of proportion to the damage the things we are afraid of can do to us but still these fears persist.  They say the best way to overcome these fears is increasing contact with the object of our fear but I have to tell you, if anyone ever comes near me with a snake or a leech neither of them will live to tell the tale.  To me it would be a case of kill or be killed and I know which one I prefer, don't you?
