I once read that people who don’t dream are insane. I don’t know it this is true or not but I do know that our dreams are the fragments of our waking life and are very important. They are a manifestation of what is in our subconscious mind; even things we are not fully aware of.
When my marriage broke up four weeks after my mother died I was at a very bad place emotionally and this was reflected in my dreams. I dreamt of snakes. They were all around me and this was terrifying for me as I am very frightened of snakes.
People told me that dreaming of snakes is your subconscious mind warning you that someone you trust is betraying you. I don’t know if that is true. My own interpretation of this dream was that my subconscious mind was reacting to my fear of being completely alone.
At the same time I began dreaming about water. I dreamt that my house was struck by a huge wave of crystal clear water and there was no way I could escape it. I interpreted this dream as being my subconscious mind telling me that I was emotionally drowning and unable to cope.
Dreams can be a trigger for creativity. Stephen King used his dreams well. Many of his books came from his dreams and after reading a lot of his books I have to say I’m glad I’m not Stephen King. Many writers write down their dreams as soon as they wake and use them as inspiration for their writing just as Stephen King used his.
There is a theory that dreams give us the opportunity to bring together experiences that did not happen at the same time but were related and this gives us the chance to learn from them. Keeping a journal of your dreams as you remember them could help you to interpret the true meaning of your dreams.
